On type design:

The ultimate goal for this project’s type design was to feature all of the pride colors without sacrificing legibility- something easy to do when dealing with full color ranges. Although the original plan was to use a pastel pink to serve as the base for the imagery, the first round of blocking made it apparent that the amount of information flying about was too much without a visual guide. Framing the designs in dark gray with a subtle vignette was a simple fix and increased drama without too much extra work on the back end.

On styling imagery:

The collages of historical & archival imagery trimmed down the video run time significantly and provided the added bonus of helping to create more interesting compositions that remained relevant to the overarching story without affecting time and pacing.

“Development time” totaled about 15 work days and included sourcing imagery, research, legal vetting, and developing the piece’s look and feel. This time was important as it allowed room for experimentation and the head room to plan execution once the imagery was both approved and assembled in After Effects.
